Skin discolouration is patches of irregular colour on the skin, and can either be darker or lighter than your skins normal skin colour. It can affect everyone and has many different causes but the most common causes are over exposure to the sun, hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, genetics and sometimes you may even be born with it.
When patches are darker than the normal skin colour, it is often known as Hyperpigmentation, it can be caused by various factors such as over exposure to the sun, injury and hormonal imbalances that all cause the over production of melanin in the skin, resulting in darker patches over the skin. When patches occur lighter than the rest of the skin it is known as Hypopigmentation, which is caused by various factors such as autoimmune diseases, injury, under active melanocytes and fungal infection which results in the under production or absence of melanin in certain spots of the skin, giving it a lighter appearance. When the skin appears red it normally indicates that an injury to blood vessels has occurred, blood then accumulates in the area causing a red patch to appear, hot flushes often caused by hormones can cause blood to rush to the area giving it a red appearance.
Because we know that there are many different forms and causes of skin discolouration, we offer different methods to treat this very complex problem. We can treat hyperpigmentation by doing Beta Peels from Lamelle, which will help lighten the darker spots over time, for home care we recommend the Luminesce range from Lamelle which helps to reduce hyperpigmentation formation by reducing the formation of melanin in a unique way. We can also recommend Lamelle’s Ovelle D3 pills that can help with evening out your skin and an added benefit is anti-ageing components. From Nimue for homecare we can recommend the Day Fader and Night Fader to help lighten the pigmentation over time. After being on the Night Fader for a certain amount you can move to the Night Fader plus which is stronger.
