What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent solution to improve and enhance eyebrows that are naturally too light, too thin, non-existent caused by chemotherapy, alopecia or hair thinning with growing older.

Microblading can be defined as a form of tattoo artistry where the pigment is being implanted under your skin using a manual handheld tool instead of a machine. Hair-like strokes are drawn with this manual tool which enables mimicking of the natural hairs in your brows. This procedure is not as deep as a regular tattoo, or permanent eyebrow makeup, but this treatment can still be classified as a tattoo procedure as the pigment is implanted under your skin.

How does Microblading work?

A consultation before your treatment is a must.

Before the treatment, your technician might ask you to come with your eyebrows penciled in to provide a guideline for the technician to see how you prefer your brows to look on a normal day. You are allowed to bring along a picture as reference to the eyebrow design you desire to have.

As discomfort during the treatment may occur, a mild anesthetic ointment is applied to the treated area with the aim to reduce it.

As soon as the anesthetic has taken effect, the technician will draw an eyebrow shape to your (the client’s) specification combined with the technician’s experience which will best suit your facial shape. The various colours that the technician will make use of will be communicated to you (the client) in order to make sure all preferences are met in accordance to your specific skin tone.

You will be given the opportunity by your technician to approve the design before the cosmetic permanent makeup commences.

More numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area if needed to reduce any discomfort that may occur and as soon as the procedure is done, the client will be provided with an aftercare regime as well as with an ointment to help with the healing process.

You might experience that your permanent makeup is very dark and prominent within the 3-5 days of it being done, which is perfectly normal. As your eyebrows heal, it will lighten to a beautiful natural-looking colour allowing you to have a “wash and wear face”.

Follow-up treatment in 6-12 weeks is necessary in order to make sure the treated area has healed and allow your technician to perfect your eyebrow design.

The Microblading Healing Process

Here we will discuss the healing process as well as the healing time after microblading.

It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the colour to fully set in.

You’ll notice the colour is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True colour will reveal itself once healed.

Day 1: Day of Treatment

Around 2-3 hours after treatment, gently clean the area with a very small amount of sterile water on a cotton pad, just barely damp, NOT wet. Do this 2 to 4 times today to avoid build-up of blood/lymph on the area. Apply ONLY the ointment provided to you by us. Do not over apply but be sure to apply about 2-4 times daily.

Day 2 – 3 : After Treatment

When you wake up, gently wipe the area with a small amount of sterile water on a cotton pad.
Be extra careful not to rub the brows hard, tug or scrub the brows. Using a cotton swab, you may apply a very small amount of aftercare balm to brows. Do not use aggressive movement/manipulation of the skin- be gentle. Make sure your hands are clean before touching your brows.

Day 4 – 14

Continue to clean the brows with a cotton pad. Apply ointment regularly. The more you apply the ointment the less you will have to worry about extreme scabbing.

What are the microblading do’s & don’ts?

We thought you’d never ask. Please remember that microblading after care is crucial to the process. Here are some Do’s and Don’ts pre and post treatment:

Prior to your procedure, DONT:

Consume alcohol and aspirin/ibuprofen and any vitamins that may thin your blood for 72 hours.

Go tanning. (We need to know your natural skin tone)

Get a face scrub or a chemical peel at least two weeks prior.

Prior to your procedure, DO:

Make sure this is something you want to do, it’s pretty permanent.

After your procedure, DO:

Within 2 hours after the procedure, clean brows using a q-tip and lightly moisten with distilled or cooled downed boiling water.

Gently wipe away the old healing balm and any lymphatic liquid (clear yellowish liquid) that may have built up.

Lightly pat dry with tissue and using a new q-tip, re-apply healing balm to the brows.

Apply a light layer of healing balm morning and night to brows for at least 5-7 days.

We know we did mention it, but we need to say it again: No matter how tempting to not scratch or pick your scabs.

If you follow these instructions you will be sure to make your microblading last longer as well.

After your procedure, DONT:

Over apply healing balm

Touch your scabs. (Seriously guys, this is a MAJOR no-no)!!!

Apply makeup over the brows for at least 10 days.

Go swimming, tanning or go into saunas for at least 2 weeks.

For the first Microblading session, the entire procedure should take about 1.5 hours.

During this session, the brow technician will shape and style the client’s brows for client approval.

We then follow with pigment color selection.  Once the client is satisfied with the choices, we begin the procedure.

The client is to come in for a follow-up visit in order to have any minor necessary touch ups.

The second Microblading session takes place after 8-12 weeks after the initial session. This session will take approximately 1 hour to complete.
